Time for Reflection and Preparation
'As we continue our journey through this unfamiliar ‘lockdown territory’, we are making every effort to keep connected, keep worshiping the Lord and keeping hopeful. Praying together helps maintain a spirit of unity whilst keeping God’s vision alive at New Life with our eyes on the future.
After using the account of Nehemiah and Ezra and the building project, to inspire our continuing prayer strategy for 2021, Ian would like to share some thoughts about the season of Lent as a time for reflection and preparation, which could be meaningful in these ‘COVID-19 conditions’.
This is a fixed 40 day period which has many Biblical connotations associated with hardship, trials, testing, judgments and equipping as preparation for God’s purposes.
As we are experiencing this global crisis and its effects on society, we can use this reflective season together to accomplish God’s good outcomes regarding New Life
You are invited to follow this weekly programme from Wednesday to Tuesday, excluding Sundays, with daily scriptures to meditate and focus on.
It has been said that ‘a family that prays together, stays together.’ Let us strive to be such a family in these unprecedented circumstances.
May God bless our prayerful exploits for His Kingdom.
Week 1 Day 1
Week 2 Day 1
Wed Feb 24
Please LORD, deliver us! Please LORD, hurry and bring success now!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD!
Let us bless you from the LORD's house
Psalm 118: 25-26
'We see in Psalm 118 the recognition of God’s people’s need for deliverance from their enemies and their hope in the Lord for that deliverance. Let us consider that we are BLESSED when we speak out in the name of Jesus, and from His House – His Body – Yes, may he Lord bless and keep this nation, may He cause His face to shine upon us again and give us His Peace.'
Week 2 Day 2
Thurs Feb 25
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
'Here we find Peter speaking boldly in the power of the Holy Spirit before the rulers of the day as a result of the healing of the lame man. He speaks of Jesus, the Cornerstone that has been rejected. Rejoice! if Jesus is the Cornerstone of your life, but let us repent on behalf of a nation that has indeed rejected Him. We declare Him to be the Cornerstone of New Life and that in His name we will indeed see many saved and healed in His name in the days to come..'
Week 2 Day 3
Fri Feb 26
Why do the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him. But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
Psalm 115: 2-8
'2021 – Many are asking ‘Where is God in all this disarray?’ Here is the answer as we declare ‘Our God is in heaven!’ As the sin of idolatry besets nations across the world let us take time out to ask ourselves what or who exactly are WE trusting in. Pray that by His grace we are becoming more like Jesus'
Week 2 Day 4
Sat Feb 27
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
"This familiar verse illustrates in NT terms what true worship is. It is sacrificial, it is in fact sacrifice of self – ouch! God knows we can’t do it of ourselves. Thank Him for His mercy and kindness that has made a way for us to be transformed into the image of Jesus. Ask Him to renew our minds by the Holy Spirit enabling us to understand His purposes and walk in His will, both individually and corporately"
Week 2 Day 5
Mon Mar 1
Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness..
Psalm 115 : 1
All you Israelites, trust in the LORD—he is their help and shield. House of Aaron, trust in the LORD—he is their help and shield. You who fear him, trust in the LORD—he is their help and shield.
Psalm 115 :9-11
'Today the Psalmist beckons everyone to trust in the Lord. In a world of fake news, scams and conspiracy theories, people are not sure who to put their trust in. This is a breeding ground for suspicion, division and rebellion as society behaves fearfully, defensively and selfishly under these conditions. Let us praise God as we say ‘he is our help and shield’, ‘always loving’ and ‘forever faithful’’
Week 2 Day 6
Tues Mar 2
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time
'Let us take time today to consider our ‘new birth’ status. Once we were without eternal hope, but now we have a ‘living hope’ because Jesus is alive. By faith we have something to look forward to from a heavenly perspective. We pray for those around us who are not assured of this inheritance, and that New Life will be a light that shines to point the way to Jesus and his gift of eternal life.'
